Humanistic Therapies
Humanistic therapies focus on helping clients to develop a healthier and stronger sense of self, growth and responsibilities, and hence meaning of life. In the humanistic view, people are responsible for their lives and actions and have the choice and will to change their attitudes and behaviour.
Amongst the humanistic therapies, person-centred therapy (also referred to as client-centred counselling) focuses on people’s self-worth and values, helping them to accept who they are; solution-focused brief therapy (also known as solution-focused therapy or brief therapy) is a humanistic approach mainly looking at what people want to achieve rather than historical problems. Solution-focused brief therapy is particularly helpful to clients who are goal-orientated and have the desire to change.
