Psychodynamic Therapies

Psychodynamic, psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic therapies all share the similar approach.  Psychoanalysis is typically delivered in a long-term time frame whereas psychoanalytic and psychodynamic are generally based on a short-term time frame.

The aim of psychodynamic therapy, or psychodynamic counselling, is to bring a person’s unconscious mind into consciousness.  This therapy or counselling approach seeks to explore how the unconscious mind influences thoughts, behaviours and feelings, and hence to offer insight and resolution to problems encountered by the person who seeks counselling.

Typical psychodynamic counselling approach looks at past experiences from a person’s early childhood to investigate if these events and memories have any effect on the person’s life or potentially contributed to the present concerns.
